Every day April to October
-
First see the departure point of the Pilgrim Fathers
on their voyage to the New World, also where famous seafarers such as Sir Walter Raleigh,
Sir Francis Drake, John Hawkins and Captain Bligh of the Bounty set off. Commencing at
Phoenix Wharf we turn into Plymouth Sound passing under the guns drawn out on the royal
citadel fortress, along the front of the unspoilt Plymouth Hoe with it's impressive Naval
War Memorial, statue of Drake and the award winning Domes. Also here we see Smeatons
Tower, a light house that once stood on the Eddystone rocks.
-
On the left is Drakes
Island, the huge Breakwater and lighthouse. Turning right we enter the river Tamar, the
natural boundary between Devon and Cornwall with the now famous and beautiful Mt.Edgecombe
Country Park on the left. Here begins a tour through Western Europe's largest Naval
Dockyard, with close up views of our latest Warships and nuclear submarines. A commentary
is given throughout the voyage.
