Redruth once the
capital of Cornish mining is an old market town of great character,
its architecture ranging in style from Georgian and Gothic to
Victorian Italianate and Art Deco. Sprawling either side of a deep
valley the town contains many interesting nooks and crannies. Towing
above Redruth is the bracken-covered hill of Carn Brea once an Iron age fort it houses a castle used in
Elizabethan times as a hunting lodge and now a restaurant.
