TRURO
carries its agenearly a thousand yearswith ease. It is always clean, bright and busy, and has never been allowed to appear old, and when it
assumed the dignity of a city in 1877 the title was in every way appropriate.
Truro holds a place of considerable importance in the Duchy, being the headquarters of Cornwall County Council and many other county and public bodies. It is
the main shopping centre for the many rural districts around.
Market Day sees Truro at its busiest for then buses and cars from outlying villages bring a
constant stream of folk who come not only to shop, but also to meet their friends and relatives, and to exchange the latest gossip.
Lemon street has one of the best-preserved examples of
Georgian architecture in Britain.
