Weymouth has been a sea port since the early Roman
times, the broad promenade curves gently around a sandy beach to the sheltered
harbour entrance thus boats may come and go regardless of the state
of the tide.
Weymouth is an ideal family seaside resort as it has many
facilities to offer the visitor, from tennis and bowling, to golf riding and yachting.
Bathing is possible from the firm sands of the bay.
The town bridge crosses the river Wey linking the two old
settlements of Melcombe Regis and Weymouth which now form the Modern
town.
